Business, civic and hospitality leaders came together to celebrate the launch of the new Cincinnati chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).

The local chapter celebrated its founding with a reception at the Procter & Gamble headquarters from 5-7 p.m. Friday, August 27.

"The formation of the SHPE Chapter in Cincinnati provides an opportunity for us to become the obvious source for quality Hispanic professionals in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math,” said Jorge Seda, president of the new chapter. “We will fulfill our mission by promoting educational and networking opportunities, professional and personal growth while enhancing the pride and reputation of the Hispanic community. These goals culminate with the SHPE National Convention to be held in our city in October."

The Cincinnati Chapter of SHPE has been created in May 2010, and officially approved the the SHPE National Board on June 13, 2010.

This is a very exciting year for us, as Cincinnati will be hosting from Oct. 27-31, 2010, the 2010 SHPE National Conference. Bringing the Conference to Cincinnati couldn't happen without all the hard work of SHPE Ohio Southwest chapter located in Dayton, OH.

But by having the conference here, it was also a great opportunity to expand SHPE in Ohio and establish a new chapter here.

We would like to invite all STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) professionals located in the Greater Cincinnati area to join our chapter and help us making the 2010 SHPE National Conference the best ever!

The University of Minnesota Twin Cities Student SHPE Chapter and the Twin Cities Professional SHPE Chapter are proud to host the Region 6 Regional Leadership Development Conference (RLDC) for 2010. The conference will be held at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus in Minneapolis, Minnesota April 22-25.

This conference will offer students the opportunity to learn what it takes to be real leaders, while at the same time working on group projects that will give them the experience they need to see what true Leadership entails.

The theme of this conference is 5-fold:

  • Shape the future
  • Make things happen
  • Engage today’s talent
  • Build the next generation
  • Invest in yourself

Students will learn about each of these themes of leadership in detail by participating in workshops delivered by industry-leading speakers. The workshop topics will scratch past the surface of typical leadership descriptions into a deeper understanding on how these themes represent good leadership. The students will have the opportunity to put into action the lessons they have learned at the RLDC into a group project. Students can expect to leave the conference with an action plan of how to implement the experiences and leadership knowledge gained to their home SHPE chapters after the RLDC.
